BBC won’t let YOU pick our Eurovision act

THE UK’s entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest will be announced this week after the BBC scrapped the public vote.

The broadcaster teamed up with record label BMG to decide who will represent the UK at this year’s competition, as leaving it to the public has resulted in a series of losses.

The entry for the 2020 contest, which will take place on May 16 in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, will be revealed simultaneously on Greg James’ BBC Radio 1 Breakfast show and on Ken Bruce’s Radio 2 show by Graham Norton on Thursday.

BMG represents successful artists such as Lewis Capaldi, James Blunt and George Ezra.

The shake-up comes after last year’s British hopeful Michael Rice finished in 26th place, putting the UK at the very bottom of the leader board for the first time in nearly ten years.

Kate Phillips from the BBC said last year: ‘I am certain that we can find the best song and artist possible for 2020.’
