Mars jars! Red planet has quakes
WE might not know if there’s life on Mars – but there are certainly earthquakes.
For the first time, scientists have confirmed the planet experiences seismic activity – or ‘Marsquakes’ – and the phenomenon is as common there as on Earth.
Nasa’s InSight spacecraft detected 450 of the quakes in just a year. The findings, in journals Nature Geoscience and Nature Communications, hint there could be water on Mars as the type of seismic waves suggest its crust contains moisture.
