DRINKWATER FALL FROM GRACE PROVES FERGIE WAS SPOT-ON

-

THERE was not a huge number of players who thrived after failing to make the grade at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson, but Danny Drinkwater (right) was one. He was a huge part of Leicester’s title-winning team in 2015-16 and secured a move to Chelsea, where it all went wrong. He barely played following the £35m move in 2017, made no headway on loan at Burnley and little at Aston Villa. Drinkwater has now been involved in a violent altercation with Villa teammate Jota and the club are looking to return him to Stamford Bridge urgently. When success visits, some players hunger for more, others lose their edge and their way. Ferguson’s greatest talent was to maintain desire in individuals who could have grown complacent. Drinkwater’s role in Leicester’s miracle suggested he made a mistake letting him go. Events since indicate that, once again, Ferguson got it spot on.
