Is Britain still too lax over airport screening?

-

DESPITE strict new rules for the public, it appears the Government has been allowing thousands of passengers from Italy, China and Iran into Britain without checking or isolating them. What proof do we have they were checked before boarding? Handing information leaflets at Heathrow and Gatwick is hardly adequate.

NORMAN WANSTALL, Burford, Worcs. MY GRANDSON was working at a ski resort when the news came that France was to close its borders. He managed to catch one of the last ferries to leave Calais. When he got to Dover, he was simply waved through without any temperature check. While we are delighted he is back home, we are appalled at the casual approach of Border Control.

ARRIVING back at Birmingham airport last Friday from Spain, I was shocked at the way the authorities dealt with travellers. At Malaga airport, the precautions had been impressive. The police ensured people kept 2m apart when queuing and all airport staff wore masks and gloves. But on arrival at Birmingham airport, we were crowded onto a bus like sardines to take us to the terminal. None of the border control staff wore protection and there was no testing at the airport.

JOHN FIELDING, Redditch, Worcs. CATCHING a plane last week in Zambia, we were obliged to use anti-bacteria gel at the airport. The same happened at Johannesburg. Heathrow didn’t bother when we arrived.

WHEN my niece arrived at Heathrow from Australia this week, I was shocked that she breezed through the airport without any temperature or other medical checks being made.
