Midwife killed by Covid-19
THE family of a midwife who died after testing positive for coronavirus said their ‘hearts are broken’.
Lynsay Coventry, 54, is the first serving NHS midwife in England whose death has been publicly confirmed, the Princess Alexandra Hospital Trust in Harlow, Essex, said.
Miss Coventry died in Chelmsford on Thursday. Her family said: ‘Our hearts are broken at the loss of our loving, wonderful and caring mum, sister, daughter and grandmother.
At least ten NHS workers, including nurses, doctors and healthcare assistants, have died during the coronavirus outbreak.
A long-serving nurse was last night confirmed as the latest frontline NHS worker to have died after contracting coronavirus.
Tributes were paid to grandmother Liz Glanister,
8, who kept working at Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool beyond retirement due as she loved the job. She died on Friday.
Meanwhile, the mother of nursing assistant John Alagos, 23, who died on Saturday, claimed he had not had access to protective equipment while treating virus victims at Watford General Hospital.
Mr Alagos, who had no underlying health conditions, is thought to be the youngest frontline NHS worker to have died after contracting Covid-19.
Tributes were also paid yesterday to healthcare assistant Glen Corbin, 59, who came out of retirement to work at the Park Royal Centre for Mental Health during the outbreak. He died last week.
