Sergeant George Plumb, of the Metropolitan Police and the Special Escort Group, put on the display at the grounds of kensington Palace.

Diana’s letter is dated June 21, 1989, and is written on kensington Palace headed paper.

ers! I know how busy you all are at the moment, so it meant even more to us that you were able to take part in the birthday celebrations!

‘this comes with our warmest possible thanks. Yours sincerely Diana, William, harry.’

Diana was grateful because the team attended the party while there were public transport workers’ strikes taking place in London.

the letter is being auctioned by William George Auctions, Peterborough, who said: ‘this letter comes signed by Diana Princess of Wales, HRH Prince William and HRH Prince harry.

‘It thanks Sgt Plumb and his team who put on a superb display for Prince William’s seventh birthday.’

the letter is being sold by a private London- based collector who acquired it from Sgt Plumb three years ago. It will be sold in an online auction that will end on April 23.

According to royal biographer Andrew Morton, Diana’s father taught her to send thank you letters after receiving a present as a child.

And she took a leaf out of her father’s book by also encouraging William to write thoughtful letters.
