- By Andy Dolan

TRIBUTES have been paid to a ‘lovely’ teenager who was killed by a hit and run driver two miles from his home.

Adam Barry, 15, died after being knocked off his bike at around 9.15pm on Saturday.

Derbyshire Police said the teenager was struck by a car on the B5010 near the 11th century Risley Hall.

After the collision the driver is thought to have continued on through the village of Risley and nearby Stanton, Ilkeston and Heanor.

Adam was rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, but died from his injuries.

Hundreds of tributes to the teenager, who lived in Sandiacre have been posted online.

Haley Clark, a teacher at Friesland School in Sandiacre, wrote: ‘Adam was a lovely, cheeky lad and a pleasure to have in the classroom. He will be missed massively.’

Claire Martin, a former teacher at the school, added: ‘You were always such a gentleman. A real trier and a breath of fresh air. You had such an inquisitive mind, deep thinking and questioning. The world will be the worse for the loss of you.’

Naomi Petty, the mother of one of Adam’s friends, described him as ‘an absolutely lovely lad’, adding: ‘Such a loss, such heartbreak.’ A 32- year- old man from Heanor has been arrested and bailed on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

A black Audi A2 thought to have been involved in the accident has been recovered and is being examined by specialist officers.

Detective Sergeant Darren Muggleton of Derbyshire Police urged anybody with CCTV or dashcam footage showing ‘a car with significant damage to the nearside front’ to come forward.

He added: ‘Following the collision, the car left the scene in the direction of Sandiacre and drove through Stanton, Ilkeston and Heanor.’
