Are enough of our key workers being tested?

-

MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW works at a care home and is in tears as elderly people die gasping for breath. I agree each care home should be visited by testers so staff members and residents with the virus can be isolated. We are told there are not enough trained staff, but how long does it take to learn how to do a throat and nasal swab?

BRIAN WILLIAMS, Wolverhampton. IF THERE’S a shortage of qualified people to do the tests, why not give the job to dentists and physios not able to practise at the moment?

NICK NAGI, Bristol. I’M A healthcare worker and have found that it’s impossible to book a coronavirus test. Until I have one and know I am clear, I can’t go back to work. What a disgrace.

JAMES McNEILL, Blackpool, Lancs. WHY can’t we use drive-through restaurants as testing centres? JOHN KIELY, Keynsham, Somerset. MY WIFE works in a care home where there have been several cases of coronavirus. Up until now, in order for the staff to be tested, they have had to go to the nearest test centre, which is 40 miles away in Nottingham, and not all of them drive. So it would be more efficient for testing vans to visit care homes and other key workers.

ALAN GARDNER, Burbage, Leics. TESTING centres are under-used because they are too far away from hospitals and care homes. They should be set up at supermarkets, which are convenient for everyone.

C. HARTLEY, Wellington, Somerset. WE NEED Covid-19 testing stations at airports and ferry terminals.

PETER J. HEATH, rugby, Warks. WE’LL never reach the 100,000 coronavirus tests a day target if they are appointment only. MIKE JAKINS, Ash, Surrey. MY FAMILY had an appointment for tests at Milton Keynes for 4.30pm on Saturday. We drove 20 miles only to be refused entry and told to come back another day because there was a two-hour wait and the centre closed at 5pm.

YASMIN GERAMI, Luton, Beds.
