A TEENAGE girl screamed ‘Mummy, I don’t want you to die’ as a woman was stabbed to death in an attack that also left a Good Samaritan in hospital.

Beautician Melissa Belshaw, 32, died and a man believed to be her neighbour who tried to intervene was seriously injured in the horrifying incident.

As detectives questioned a 36-year- old man on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, distraught relatives paid tribute to the ‘caring’ mother of one.

Neighbour Chris Parr, 35, said Miss Belshaw’s 13-year-old daughter ran outside for help during the attack in Wigan on Wednesday.

‘It was heartbreaking hearing her cry for her mother,’ he told Sun Online. ‘She was delirious and running about before the police got hold of her.’

Another witness said he saw two men fighting in the street outside the terraced house in the Billinge area just before 4.10pm.

‘They both fell into the middle of the road,’ he said. ‘I had to swerve around them. The man on top looked to be trying to stab the man on the floor with a large knife.’

The Good Samaritan, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital with stab wounds.

Tributes were left at the scene yesterday, with one card reading: ‘You would have been so proud of your little girl for being so brave.’

Miss Belshaw’s stepmother, Lisa

Belshaw, said: ‘She was lovely. She is going to be so sadly missed. I got a phone call saying a man had gone into her house and stabbed her. I had no idea she had died until I read it on Facebook.’

Close friend Leanne Fairhurst added: ‘She had a good heart. She was so outgoing and was always smiling and loved a good time.

‘When we used to go parties, Melissa was always the one trying make everybody laugh. I just broke down in tears when I found out. I have lost a good friend and I am going to miss her so much.’

Despite the efforts of paramedics, Miss Belshaw was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Superintendent Jamie Daniels, of Greater Manchester Police, said: ‘Our thoughts are with the lady’s loved ones after this absolutely tragic incident. We will offer them full support and do all that we can to provide them with much deserved answers.’
