Should social distancing be reduced from two metres to one?
WITH the economy on its knees, it is essential that we give the green light to the hospitality and leisure industries and get Britain working again. Yes, there is a risk in relaxing the social distancing guidance from two metres to one metre. My wife and I are in our 70s and for health reasons would not be prepared to visit a pub or restaurant, but that shouldn’t mean the younger generation can’t get back to socialising to kick-start the economy.
J. FORD, Kenilworth, Warks. I AM increasingly concerned over Government U-turns and flip-flopping over lockdown rules. We were told for weeks we didn’t need face masks, but now we have to wear them on public transport. Shops, businesses and schools have spent money on signage for two-metre social distancing rules and now it looks as if the goalposts are to be moved to one metre. The Government needs to
come up with a workable plan and stick to it.
D. GIBSON, Belper, Derbys.
PLEASE, Mr Johnson, start listening to your fellow politicians and the public. We need to reduce social distancing to one metre to help get the economy moving again.
SANDRA GRATTON, Ruthin, Denbighshire. I AM shocked and disgusted that MPs are calling for the two-metre social distancing rule to be reduced to one metre. How many lives are they prepared to sacrifice just to get pubs and clubs open?
JOHN BOWYER, Lincoln.
WHAT is the point of discussing social distancing? The mobs have already made that decision for the Prime Minister.
NADA MRDALJ, London W2. PERSONAL space is 50 cm from a friend, 80 cm from an acquaintance and a metre from a stranger. So one metre isn’t social distancing, but is the norm. Those lobbying for one metre for the good of the economy are, in fact, asking to end social distancing. R. J. CUBITT, Daventry, Northants.
THE Government should let pubs and restaurants use one metre for social distancing. Those who do not agree can simply avoid these places.
CHRIS MALE, Northampton. PUBS complain they won’t survive unless the two-metre rule is relaxed. So much for public safety.
GRAHAM MARSH, Stockport.
