Woke generation are simply potty

-

THE thought police are at it again. J. K. Rowling expresses her opinion on gender and is immediately vilified by people who have a different view. Campaigning against Ms Rowling doesn’t make them right and her wrong. This is a free country and people must be able to express their thoughts without this kind of sanctimonious reaction otherwise George Orwell’s 1984 here we come. as for the staff of publishers Hachette, who have threatened to down tools on Ms Rowling’s new children’s book, The Ickabog, because they disagree with her views, have they thought they may be killing the goose that’s laying their golden egg?

Name supplied, Derby. THE publishers Hachette should be inviting their staff to look for other jobs to which they may be better suited. They certainly don’t belong in publishing where all views regardless of whether you support them should be open and freely published. J. K. Rowling is entitled to her opinion like everyone else. Just because you work for a publisher should not give you the right to say what should be published. If you read carefully what she wrote in her essay, she is asking only that care and thought is given to those who wish to transgender and they should not be rushed into a decision that could rebound on them. The stars of the Harry Potter films have achieved great wealth, but feel they have to jump on the bandwagon to criticise the author and to show how woke and self-righteous they are. I don’t agree with everything Ms Rowling says, but I defend her right to free speech.

HAZEL PIMM, Clevedon, Somerset. THE mutiny at Hachette is symptomatic of today’s woke society. If they don’t agree with something then it must be wrong. It’s not even about the book, but an attack on the author’s views, which she is perfectly entitled to hold. Ms Rowling should take her book to another publisher.

JAMES CRANE, Fareham, Hants. nO MaTTER how you dress it up, the publishing staff revolt over J. K. Rowling’s views is censorship.

PATRICK MORGAN, Hednesford, Staffs. IT IS disturbing and dismaying that in order to support transgender women, you have to deny the biological functions of those born women. Can we not agree there are biological and transgender women? I am a biological woman, but describing myself in this way does not mean that I seek to undermine transgender women. There’s no need for division on this issue. The woke generation who appear to be fuelling the controversy should exercise their minds.

GAIL COPE, Ashley Heath, Shropshire.
