Abandoned abroad

-

THERE has been plenty of coverage about people struggling to get refunds for cancelled or postponed holidays, but nothing about people like me.

I have been abandoned abroad and simply forgotten about by airlines and the Government.

I lost my long-booked seat without explanation on a socalled repatriation flight from Spain and nine further flights have been cancelled.

The only help offered by the British consulate was the advice ‘ Get home now’, despite the fact there are no direct commercial flights from alicante to Manchester. The only flight that has been offered to me was from alicante to Barcelona with a 19-hour stop- over in an airport where there are no cafes, restaurants or hotels open.

Then an onward flight from Barcelona to Gatwick followed by a 250-mile road trip home.

I am in my 80s and facing a fourth month of enforced stay, with summer rental prices, and no offer of help. MARILYN WHITEHEAD,

Alicante, Spain.
