Rampage that wrecked their penthouse

-

THIS was the scene after raging Johnny Depp headbutted Amber Heard, threw her on their oak bed so hard it broke and ripped out clumps of her hair, the High Court heard.

The actor told the judge the headbutt was ‘unintentional’ as he was shown photos of the wreckage of the Los Angeles penthouse he shared with his then wife.

He claimed he had been trying to escape Miss Heard ‘swinging wildly’ at him during one of their arguments on December 15, 2015. In his rampage, Depp allegedly overturned rails of designer clothes, yanked a bedside light fitting from the wall and scrawled graffiti and slogans over a kitchen counter top with a gold pen.

The Sun’s QC Sasha Wass, cross-examining Depp, told him: ‘You lost your temper. You threw a decanter. You punched the walls, slapped Miss Heard, grabbed her by the hair.’ The actor replied: ‘No.’

Miss Heard ran upstairs and Depp chased her, said Miss Wass, adding: ‘You smacked the back of her head and shoved her. You completely lost your self-control. You headbutted Miss Heard using the top of your head to head hit her between the eyes. Miss Heard fell backwards and her nose began to bleed straight away.’ Depp said that was not true. ‘And in the bedroom, you grabbed her by the throat and pushed her on the bed, slapped her across the face, saying you are going to kill her. You were in an uncontrollable rage, smothering her, screaming you were going to kill her, and hated her. The bed broke under the force of your weight. You pulled out clumps of her hair.’

Depp: ‘No ma’am.’ Miss Wass said the actress ran screaming to the bathroom saying he had broken her nose. The court was shown a photo of Miss Heard taken the next day, with ‘the beginning of two black eyes’. A recording was played in which the couple seemed to be discussing the headbutt, with Miss Heard saying: ‘I couldn’t believe you did that,’ and her husband apparently saying: ‘I headbutted you in the ****ing forehead. That doesn’t break a nose.’

Giving his version of events, Depp said: ‘She was swinging wildly at me, and as I was walking away from the argument, she was hitting me. I turned to cover my head and she was swinging quite wildly so the only thing I could do in that situation was to run or try to get my arms around her to stop her flailing and punching me so I did so, as I did so it seems there was a collision. There was no intentional headbutt.’

He claimed he was left with ‘a number of scratches’ following the incident. Depp said: ‘Most of the time, Miss Heard’s problem was that I would run away from fights and I was then called a coward.’

He said Miss Heard had made up her injuries as part of a dossier she was compiling against him. ‘It’s my belief it’s another wonderful thing to put in her kaleidoscope dossier insurance policy. It’s a lie and a hoax. Miss Heard can never be wrong, and she is not going to admit the truth.’
