A CORONAVIRUS vaccine could be rolled out in the first half of next year if trials are successful, a scientist has claimed.

Professor Robin Shattock, who heads a team developing a vaccine at Imperial College London, said that enough doses would be available for everyone in the UK if the research goes ‘really well’.

But he stressed there was ‘no certainty’ that his vaccine or any of the others currently in development would be successful. One of the problems for scientists was that they did not know what level of immunity people needed to protect themselves from Covid-19, he told Sky News’s Sophy Ridge On Sunday yesterday.

Some 15 volunteers have been vaccinated for the trial so far, which will be increased to include another 200 to 300 participants in the ‘coming weeks’, the professor said.
