-

A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of assisting or encouraging suicide after she was found seriously hurt beside a dead youth at a historic spa hotel.

Police called to the scene in the early hours of Thursday found the 46-year-old and the body of the 19-year-old.

She was given first aid by officers before being taken to hospital, where she was said to be stable. The woman has since been arrested.

The incident happened at the 700-yearold Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel in Clayton-le-Moors, Lancashire, following reports of concern for the welfare of a man and a woman.

No identities have been disclosed. The incident is being treated as unexplained but there is nothing to suggest anyone else was involved, said a spokesman for Lancashire Police.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out but the cause of the youth’s death remains unascertained after he was found around 1.45am, he added.

Accor, the parent company of Mecure Hotels, said: ‘As this is a police matter we cannot comment.’
