Blackpool Illuminations... from outer space! Comet soars across British skies
IT makes a spectacular sight, streaking across the clear summer night sky.
Comet Neowise may look like something from a Hollywood disaster movie as it plunges towards earth, but in reality this eye- catching space traveller, discovered by Nasa in march, is no threat – and is a very long way away.
experts say the closest it will come is 64million miles on July 23 – 250 times further away than the moon – before heading back to the outer solar system. But even at such a distance it will still be visible to the naked eye throughout July.
Already stunning photos have been captured of the comet above landmarks, including Lincoln cathedral, Stonehenge, Blackpool Tower and Glastonbury Tor.
