A TEENAGER killed herself while on the phone to her friend after telling her ‘ I’m going to do it’, an inquest heard.

Chloe Davison said the chilling words to pal lauren Askew before the line went dead.

Emergency crews rushed to the 19-year-old’s home in lanchester, County Durham on December 20 last year, but were unable to save her. Yesterday Miss Davison’s family said they were concerned about care she received from an NHS mental health team.

Shirley Smith, a family friend representing Chloe’s mother, Clair reynolds, told the inquest: ‘The discharge summary said Chloe had been referred to a community support worker and that they would be in contact within four to six weeks. But in the meantime Chloe had died.’

Miss Davison, who worked in a restaurant, had been receiving mental health support since the age of 16 and had a history of self harm and binge-drinking.

Though it was not discussed at the inquest, her mother had previously raised fears about her desperation for the approval of others on social media.

Following her daughter’s death, she said: ‘Other people did not see what we saw.

‘Chloe was the joker, bubbly and hilarious.

‘She was the life and soul of the party. Chloe was beautiful, but she didn’t see that.

‘She cared so much about how people saw her. She would post a picture on social media and want all her family to like it... I blame social media a lot for what has happened.

‘Younger people need more help and education on social media. There are too many people out there who can say what they like because it’s not face-to-face.’

At the inquest, Durham coroner Crispin Glover recorded a verdict of suicide by hanging.

He noted the family’s concern about Chloe’s apparent discharge from Tees, Esk and Wear Valley Foundation NHS Trust on November 18 last year. He added: ‘Chloe had a close relationship with her support worker and a replacement support worker had not been appointed prior to her death.’
