Annie Lennox: Grey skies of UK gave me the blues
ANNIE Lennox has revealed she suffered from depression as a teenager due to the dreary weather of her home city.
The singer said she had regular bouts of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) while growing up in Aberdeen.
Lennox, 65, now lives in Los Angeles, where she was lured by the longer hours of daylight.
Speaking to Janice Forsyth on the Great Scot podcast, the Eurythmics singer said: ‘I’m not a sun-worshipper but I do like
the light. I get that SAD syndrome badly, and I did get it when I lived in Aberdeen.
‘I didn’t realise that that was what was affecting me. The word that sums up a lot of the Scottish weather is dreich. It’s not always dreich but often is.’
She also told how moving to London at 17 caused conflict with her orthodox family. ‘It was very contradictory to my parents’ upbringing,’ she said.
