Teacher ‘sent topless snaps after sex with boy pupil, 15’
Baby scare for married mum after tryst in field, court told
‘Book hotel room as birthday treat’
A MARRIED school teacher had sex with a 15-year-old boy in a field and sent him topless photos of herself – which were then circulated around the school, a court heard yesterday.
Kandice Barber, 35, also allegedly told the boy she might be pregnant with his child following a post-sports day encounter.
Barber denies having sex with the boy and told police her phone must have been hacked.
Prosecutor Richard Milne told Aylesbury Crown Court that Barber had approached the boy herself in September 2018, during sports day at the secondary school in Buckinghamshire.
He said she took his phone and added her number to his account on Snapchat – a messaging app – before later picking him up in her car and driving him to a secluded area for sex. Mr Milne said: ‘Things developed on her part by her sending him messages. She would tell him she was having a bath or a shower and then ask him if he wanted to meet.
‘She had driven over, he got into her car, she asked for somewhere private, he suggested some fields. It was 5pm in the evening on a school day.’
The court heard Barber had sex with the boy and later sent him topless pictures of herself, which were shown to the jury yesterday.
The images were sent around the school and eventually came into possession of the headmaster.
Mr Milne added that Barber even offered to book a hotel room as a treat for the boy’s 16th birthday.
He said: ‘He [the victim] was not proud of what happened, he was not showing off, it was not some sort of fantasy.
‘He was extremely concerned and nervous when the rumours were going around. He knows that they did not have sex after his 16th birthday because she had proposed a hotel... which he politely declined.’
The pair continued messaging for months and only stopped the affair when school staff found out, the boy told police in March last year. When he initially spoke to his headmaster about the relationship, he had denied sleeping with the teacher because he feared she would accuse him of rape, he said.
‘I lied because she had told me she could be pregnant with my child and I began to panic. I lied to pretty much everyone except my friends,’ the boy told a member of the child abuse team at Aylesbury police station.
‘She said that if I was going to snitch... she was going to bring me down with her. I was like, are you going to accuse me of rape? She was like, “dot dot dot”. Obviously I got angry and I did not talk to her after that.’
Barber was arrested in March last year and denied having sex with the boy, although the following day she admitted sending him the topless photos during an assessment with a social worker.
She claimed her pregnancy was widely known around the school, but said her husband had been the father of the child – she later lost the baby.
Mr Milne said: ‘She said that she was going through a bad patch with her husband, that she was pregnant but lost the child, they wanted another but it was not happening.
‘Things were strained between her and her husband. The boy had paid her attention and she had let her guard down and started to talk to him.’
Barber, of Wendover, Buckinghamshire, denies three counts of causing or inciting a child under 16 to engage in a sexual act, one count of sexual communication with a child, one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activities while in a position of trust and one count of causing a child to watch a sexual act by a person in a position of trust. The trial continues.
