Russian jab DOES work, trials show
RUSSIA’S vaccine could be the first in the world proven to work, results suggest.
Scientists behind the Sputnik V vaccine yesterday addressed criticisms by publishing the full results of its preliminary trials.
The data, published in the Lancet journal, shows the vaccine is safe and triggered an immune response in tests on 78 people.
The Russian team also said they expect to publish results from a larger phase-three trial on 40,000 people as soon as next month. This puts it in the race to be the first in the world to publish phase-three results for a vaccine. The Oxford University team hope to publish its results by Christmas.
UK scientists last night said the publication of results by the Gamaleya National Research Centre in Moscow does not prove the vaccine actually protects people – but acknowledged it is a good sign.
