UBER RENT

UBER ( uber.com) has launched a car rental service in the UK after running trials in France and Austria.

The taxi hire app has partnered with rental company CarTrawler to offer a selection of vehicles.

Booking through the Uber app will give users discounts of up to 25 per cent, as well as free cancellations up to 48 hours ahead of collecting the vehicle.

ITALIAN BREAKS

A TRIP to Italy is still looking like a good bet for this autumn and Kirker Holidays has just realised a selection of deals. Spend three nights’ B&B at the Hotel Splendid in Venice from £778pp (saving £420) or head to Rome for three nights’ B&B at the Hotel d’Inghilterra from £673pp (saving £525). All trips include flights. If you want to see the full selection, go to kirkerholidays.com.

HISTORIC HOUSES

HISTORIC houses, gardens and museums are some of the most spectacular attractions in the UK.

And the UK Heritage Awards arrived at a good time this year, given the popularity of UK-based holidays.

The best family day out award went to Birdoswald Fort in Cumbria, Levens Kitchen in Kendal, also in Cumbria, was the best venue to eat, and Broughton Hall in Yorkshire was the best place to stay. See all the winners at ukheritage awards.co.uk.

GRAND OPENING

GIVEN the tumultuous time the travel industry has had in recent months, it is reassuring to see hotels still opening around the country.

The Buxton Crescent Hotel is set to open on October 1 in the historic Peak District spa town Buxton. The 81-room hotel is in a magnificent Georgian building and rates start from £125 B&B.
