£70m Havertz joins Chelsea

CHELSEA confirmed the £70million signing of Kai Havertz last night on a five-year deal from Bayer Leverkusen. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who cost £62m before add-ons, left Germany’s camp to complete the transfer yesterday. Havertz said: ‘I am very happy and proud to be here. It is a dream come true to play for a big club like Chelsea.’

A DRAMATIC breakthrou­gh in negotiatio­ns is required if Jadon Sancho is to finalise a move to Manchester United in the next month. United are making little progress in talks over his salary and his agent’s fee. They will not negotiate a fee with Dortmund until a deal is reached with the 20-year-old’s representa­tives. JORDAN HENDERSON and Kevin De Bruyne will go head-to-head again after the PFA revealed the six-man shortlist for their Player of the Year. Liverpool captain Henderson was honoured by the FWA and Manchester City midfielder De Bruyne won the Premier League gong. The PFA award will be won by a Liverpool or Manchester City player as Henderson heads four nominees from Anfield — Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold — while De Bruyne is joined by team-mate Raheem Sterling.
