REVEALED WHY JOSE AND ROSE BLEW UP

- By MATT BARLOW

DANNY ROSE’S loan move to Newcastle followed a showdown with Jose Mourinho when the defender complained he was treated unfairly while others were playing ‘s***’ and still in the Tottenham team.

This tense exchange, reported at the time by Sportsmail, came after Rose was left out at Watford in January and is revealed in the Amazon documentary

All Or Nothing on Monday. Mourinho picked Japhet Tanganga — a young, right-sided defender — instead and Rose arrived at training the next day to find out why. ‘Gaffer, I’m just wondering what the problem is,’ says Rose. ‘How do you mean?’ replies Mourinho. ‘You know exactly what I mean, how I’m being treated,’ says Rose. ‘I was very excited when you came as manager but if you don’t want me to play, I would rather you tell me now and I will stay at home, Gaffer, and I will train at home.’

Mourinho tells Rose he ‘didn’t play well’ against Liverpool and says Tanganga was playing so well that he was unable to leave him out of the side.

Rose fumes: ‘Do you want me to be man of the match and give my best performance when I play one game and don’t play again for three or four weeks?

‘The defence has kept two clean sheets and they play every game. You’re saying I was s*** against Liverpool and you’re right and I respect what you say but other people have been s*** in training and s*** in every game, and they play every game and they’re in the squad every game.”

Mourinho says: ‘It’s your perspective’ and Rose shoots back: ‘It’s facts, the whole changing room knows it’s facts. It’s not fair.’

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy agrees to find Rose a move but has only two loan options. Bournemouth are interested but Rose is not, and Newcastle won’t sign players over 26, so there is no chance of making his move permanent.

Rose joined Newcastle for the rest of the season and is now back at Tottenham.
