FRIENDS ( HALF ) REUNITED
Stars back together for ‘virtual’ Emmys
WITH Friends like these – who needs Emmys?
Despite missing out on a gong at the ‘virtual’ award ceremony, Jennifer Aniston still made the most of the night as she caught up with her old co-stars.
This year’s Emmys was hosted without a live audience, with many celebrities appearing onscreen from their homes.
Miss Aniston, 51, had shown up in person to present an award at the ‘TV Oscars’ at the Staples Center in LA alongside host Jimmy Kimmel.
But she then zipped back to her home nearby and when cameras cut to her lounge later in the evening she was joined by fellow Friends stars Courteney Cox, 56, and Lisa Kudrow, 57.
‘Of course I’m here. We live together,’ Miss Cox joked when Kimmel asked why she was at Miss Aniston’s house. ‘Yeah, we’ve been roommates since 1994, Jimmy,’ said Miss Aniston, referencing the fact their characters had lived together on the long-running sitcom.
The trio played Phoebe, Rachel and Monica as half of Friends’ main cast – along with male costars David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc.
At Sunday night’s awards, Miss Aniston was nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category for her role in The Morning Show. But she lost out to Zendaya from teenage show Euphoria.
Earlier in the evening, she had shared her pre-show preparations with fans, wearing a cosmetic face mask and then having her hair done by a hairdresser. While she might not have won this year, she did previously win an Emmy in 2002 for her role in Friends.
It was a bad year for the Britons at the ceremony, however, with just one home-grown win despite a raft of nominations for the likes of Olivia Colman, Jodie Comer and Brian Cox. British writer Jesse Armstrong accepted the Best Drama award for his hit Sky drama Succession. One of the show’s stars, actress Sarah Snook, 32, also appeared from home during the evening. Despite not winning in her Supporting Actress category, she held up a tin-foil Emmy it looked like she had made herself.
