THE KATE ESCAPE
Princess Charming banishes Covid gloom as she meets new mothers
WITH autumn about to pounce and pandemic news getting ever gloomier, goodness knows the nation needed to see a happy face.
And the Duchess of Cambridge was happy to oblige.
Kate lit up London’s Battersea Park yesterday – a perfect picture of summery optimism – with everything from her glowing smile right down to her cheerful salmon pink trousers (£59, from M&S).
New mums who had to deal with every other hardship under lockdown felt able to smile as she chatted away about their support networks.
In a casual white T-shirt, the duchess heard how fellow mums and dads have been volunteering to help new parents tackle issues from postnatal depression to bereavement. The volunteers, from community network HomeStart and the National Childbirth Trust, have given up thousands of hours in lockdown to give support via Zoom and phone calls.
Kate, 8, delighted the little ones too, cooing over a volunteer’s baby, and told two other support mums: ‘Without what you are providing, that form of relationship, you can feel so isolated. You should be very proud.’
