Keir’s opportunism

-

I THOUGHT Keir Starmer was clever and reasonable, but saying on television, ‘if I were Boris Johnson I would apologise to the public’, shows he is neither.

using the worldwide Covid pandemic, an unknown virus which no one knew how to treat and which is still infecting millions of people and killing hundreds of thousands, as a political weapon is dangerously stupid. It is pure politicking and a misuse of his influential position as Leader of the opposition.

This pandemic is the worst world crisis since World War II. The Labour Party then supported the Government and leader Clement Attlee kept his doubts about government planning to himself or aired them to Churchill in private.

he didn’t use the grave situation for political gain or to boost his own ego or standing in his party.

he was a man of honour who cared more about the country and its people than touring radio stations belittling and sneering at Ministers, scientists, nhS and laboratory staff, all working very hard to combat the many and varied problems thrown up by the terrible disease.

It is Starmer who should apologise to the public for pretending he knows better than anyone else how to deal with this extreme emergency and that he would do a better job. ROGER FOWNES, Bromsgrove, worcs.
