REGARDING the letter from Bob Wallace and his memory of the Australians amassing 721 in a day at Southend in 1948 (Peterborough), I recall Bradman hit 187 of those. I became a fan of Sir don when collecting the 1934 and 1938 cigarette cards on which he featured. I corresponded with him from 1982 to 2000, receiving 56 letters, many of them quite long. I enjoyed the hospitality of Sir don and Lady Jessie in 1997, six months before she died. Accompanied by friends, Sir don again welcomed me to his home in 1999, and when he died in February 2001 Peter Jackson summarised his letters on four pages over two days in the daily Mail. he also arranged for the Mail to fund my attendance at his memorial service in Adelaide. I was glad to know neil harvey is still with us. I was in a crowd of 30,000 at Swansea in 1953 where his 180 against Glamorgan was the finest innings I’ve ever seen.

Douglas Davies, Porthcawl, Glamorgan.
