Long overdue

IT’S good to see that the appalling massacre at Babyn Yar (Mail) is getting the recognition it deserves.

Several years ago my wife and I were shown the site by a couple of Ukrainian friends, and told what happened there. We noticed that the place is silent: although it was summer there was no bird song.

Our friends also told us that there had been several attempts to build on the site, but each time something had gone wrong.

I hope that the proposed museum and memorial will be more successful, and a fitting tribute to those who were murdered.
