George just like a caged animal if he can’t go out, reveals Wills

- By Claire Duffin

PRINCE George is like a ‘caged animal’ if he doesn’t spend time outdoors, his father Prince William has revealed.

The Duke of Cambridge has opened up about the love of nature he shares with his children, George, seven, Princess Charlotte, five, and two-year-old Prince Louis.

His comments closely echo those of his mother, Princess Diana, who once said William and Harry were like ‘caged lions’ as children when living in London.

It comes as the world heard the first official public words of George, Charlotte and Louis in a video released by their parents at the weekend. William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, filmed the youngsters as they asked Sir David Attenborough questions about wildlife.

William said in an ITV documentary: ‘Seeing my children, seeing the passion in their eyes and the love for being outdoors… They find a bug or they love watching how bees are forming the honey.

‘George particularly, if he’s not outdoors he’s quite like a caged animal. He needs to get outside.’

In the programme, called Prince William: A Planet For Us All, the duke talks about his lifelong environmental journey which inspired him to launch his ambitious Earthshot Prize this month to tackle the threat to the planet.

Prince George and his younger siblings are shown gardening during the film, joining the 10,000 children who have volunteered with the Backyard Nature campaign, which aims to get youngsters outdoors.

William said: ‘As we have seen from coronavirus, organisations have mobilised themselves, like something we’ve never seen before... If we can provide the same motivation with the environment, we have truly turned a corner.’

Prince William: A Planet For Us All will be shown on ITV tonight at 9pm.
