Are leaders hypocrites about Covid rules?

- SIMON CAMPBELL, Glasgow.

HOW could the voters of Margaret Ferrier’s constituency ever have expected her to act in their best interests again when she couldn’t put the safety of the nation ahead of her own importance?

Despite demanding Dominic Cummings be sacked for breaking the Covid-19 rules, she herself first noted symptoms, took a coronavirus test, travelled from Scotland to London for a debate on — ironically — the coronavirus, then that same day received a positive result and decided to use public transport to get back home — putting many people’s lives at risk.

ASHLEY SMITH, March, Cambs. THE authorities should make an example of Corbyn, Johnson senior and Ferrier for breaking the Covid-19 rules. They should be heavily fined and their shame published in every newspaper.

IVAN HOLDER, Welwyn Garden City, Herts. THE INTERVIEW with SNP leader at Westminster Ian Blackford about his party’s MP Margaret Ferrier on BBC Breakfast was unbelievable. Three or four times he was asked whether this MP should resign. Each time he used the avoidance strategies of ‘she has got to reflect on what she has done’ and ‘I am asking Margaret to do the right thing’. These people are an insult and a disgrace. Blackford likes to lecture Johnson at PMQs, called for Cummings to resign over a rule breach, and can’t give a straight answer himself.

R. KIMBLE, Leeds, Yorks. THE nation went mad for a week after one official, Dominic Cummings, stupid though it was, drove a few miles on country lanes to test his eyesight, but didn’t put the public at risk of infection.

Now an MP with Covid-19 symptoms travelled to Parliament from Scotland, addressed a debate on Covid-19, got a positive test result later that day and then went all the way back to Scotland on the train, possibly infecting dozens of people. Where is the greater outrage?
