WHAT TO WEAR THIS WEEKEND
QUILTED COAT
THE DUVET YOU CAN WEAR
I’ve always thought the next best thing to being under a duvet is wearing one, and, thankfully, the fashion world agrees this autumn. Quilted styles are the warmest and chicest thing to be seen in, thanks to Burberry, Chloe and Chanel.
KHAKI IS HAVING A MOMENT
IT’S a colour more often associated with country casual than city slick, but khaki is highly versatile and looks surprisingly chic when teamed with winter neutrals such as navy, black or camel.
Smarten it up like I have here with some cream knee-high boots. The block heel makes them surprisingly easy to walk in, but if you can’t face heels then go for chunky hiking boots, the other functional trend that’s huge this season.
THE BIGGER THE BETTER
The beauty of this is that, while it makes a fashionable statement, it’s also the kind of coat you can throw over anything.
The one from Cos (below) is so big you don’t need to worry about outfit planning as it envelops you top to toe. Shorter versions look good teamed with a skirt; while longer lengths can be worn with most things.
Look for one with a belt — or add your own — especially if you’re on the shorter side like me. It draws you in at the waist and stops you looking like you’re drowning.
A REAL HARD WORKER
When it comes to budget, the general rule is spending more will get you a better quality fabric and more insulation, but cheaper versions can look just as stylish, like this one (below) from Monki.
There’s no reason not to make a sustainable choice either: everlane’s is made of recycled polyester. Whatever you go for, this hard-working outerwear is a wise investment.
