BBC’s Brexit guru joins the race for Woman’s Hour job

As R4 ‘road tests’ candidates to be the second host...

REPLACING Jenni Murray and Jane garvey was never going to be easy.

Now Woman’s Hour has come up with a new name in its search for a presenting line-up that will have listeners tuning in.

Katya adler is being tried out as a potential host to join Emma Barnett once Miss garvey departs at the end of the year.

Miss adler, 48, has been the face of much of the BBC’s Brexit coverage as Europe Editor – a post she has held since 2014 – and has presented the Radio 4 programme twice this week.

Show bosses are trying out candidates for the second presenting role in addition to Miss Barnett, 35, by giving them shifts on the long-running show.

Last week BBC news correspond­ent Sangita Myska also presented an edition. it is understood she is one of the leading candidates along with Miss adler. in recent years Miss adler has been a prominent face with her coverage of Brexit on BBC news. in the latest talent pay disclosure­s it was revealed she was paid between £ 210,000 and £214,999.

Among the subjects she covered in fronting the show last Wednesday and Thursday were women dying from cocaine use, and those sleeping rough.

Miss Myska has presented documentar­ies for Radio 4 including lives in a landscape and What’s in a name? She also presented addicted to Sex, and appeared on Politics live and BBC1’s The One Show.

Whoever takes over permanentl­y will host the show on Friday and Saturday. with Miss Barnett fronting it from Monday to Thursday. The loss of Dame Jenni and Miss garvey represents a huge change for the programme.

Dame Jenni, 70, presented her final show on October 1.

She was the longest-serving presenter in Woman’s Hour’s 74-year history having become a regular host of the programme in 1987. When she was announced in the role, Miss Barnett said: ‘i have a long love of Woman’s Hour and live radio and know that this is a very rare opportunit­y.’
