YOU HAVE YOUR SAY

-

EVERY week, Money Mail receives hundreds of your letters and emails about our stories. Here are some of the best from our article on little-known catches that could cost you vital savings when you switch energy suppliers:

I’VE been with my supplier for more than 40 years and don’t think I will ever change. They all hike prices in the end.

O. S., Oxford. I ALWAYS use a comparison site, then go to the supplier to see if it is offering the same tariff at a cheaper price. Some suppliers offer cashback deals you can’t get through comparison sites.

V. L., Dumfries and Galloway. ALWAYS check customer review sites before you switch. Being landed with an incompetent firm causes immense stress.

M. R., Cardiff. I BYPASS the commercial comparison sites and go straight to the Citizens Advice switching tool. But I do worry that I could be missing out on tariffs which are exclusive to certain sites.

R. H., by email. I SWITCHED a few months ago. It may not be the cheapest tariff on the market, but the customer service is excellent. All it took was a four-minute phone call — my new supplier did the rest.

S. S., Orpington, Kent. I’VE recently switched suppliers and it has been a nightmare. I submitted my initial reading to my new supplier, but the final bill I received from my old provider was clearly inaccurate. When I called up it had different readings on its records.

R. G., Dorset. I SWITCHED to Tonik a few months ago and I regret it now, as it has gone bust. I agree with the article — you should always be cautious with the smaller and cheaper suppliers. Sometimes it can feel like there is no way to avoid getting ripped off.

L. Y., Cambridge. ÷ WE LOVE hearing from our loyal readers, so ask that during this challenging time you write to us by email where possible, as we will not pick up letters sent to our postal address as regularly as usual.
