Dad killed son, 3, in 100mph race on motorway

A FATHeR who killed his three-year-old son when he crashed during a 100mph motorway race was jailed yesterday.

Israr Muhammed, 41, lost control in the ‘incredibly foolhardy’ random encounter with Adam Molloy, 29, as the pair returned from a day out at the seaside with their families.

Other motorists said they were ‘racing and driving like idiots’ in their Honda Civics, doing 100mph just 30ft apart. Molloy was tailgating Muhammed in the outside lane of the M62 near Goole, east Yorkshire, when the accident happened.

A ‘latent defect’ caused Muhammed’s tyre to fail and he spun out of control before plummeting down an embankment in July 2018.

Molloy ‘miraculously’ avoided a collision and drove on without stopping in an attempt to escape justice, Hull Crown Court heard. Dashcam footage from another car enabled police to identify him.

Muhammed’s youngest son, Say Han, three, was in an unsecured child seat in the back and died at the scene from multiple head injuries.

the car. His daughter, 11, suffered facial injuries and needed an eye operation.

His wife Safeena, 35, the front-seat passenger, suffered brain injuries and was in a coma in hospital for more than a month. She has still not fully recovered and is being treated for depression.

The court heard both drivers showed a total disregard for safety as they raced competitively despite children being in the car.

Molloy, an HGV driver, was with his ex-partner and their four-year-old child when he began driving in an ‘aggressive and intimidating’ fashion.

Muhammed, of Batley, West Yorkshire, who was uninsured, and Molloy, of Normanton, West Yorkshire, were found guilty last month of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving.

Yesterday both men were jailed for four-and-ahalf years and disqualified from driving for six years and three months.

Although a tyre defect was the direct cause of the crash, Judge David Tremberg told Muhammed he had ‘an array of safe choices to avoid rising to the bait’ but instead drove ‘pigheadedly’ at high speed with Molloy racing close behind.

The judge told both men that in such tragic cases ‘there are never any winners, only losers’.
