Retake your test

-

AS A former traffic policeman who has witnessed the carnage caused by poor driving standards, I agree with Jenni Murray’s suggestion that we should all have to retake a driving test every so many years.

At present, you can pass your test at 17 and then for the rest of your life you can be in sole charge of a large machine that is more than capable of killing.

No further training or assessment are required, which is madness.

A gas engineer, electrician and many other professionals are required to prove their competence periodically, yet a car driver doesn’t.

Maybe insurance companies could offer a discount to drivers who get themselves re-tested every few years.
