Loose talk
MY FAMILY has also had an embarrassing experience speaking Spanish (Letters).
We were in a hotel in Majorca with our teenage daughters. Two young waiters were serving our drinks and making eyes at the girls while chatting to each other.
Both girls had studied Spanish at school, so when we got up to leave, they had a rather animated conversation with the young men.
Apparently, the tone of the waiters’ chatter had been: ‘Which one do you want? I’ll take the blonde!’
The look on their faces was priceless.
