FLEETWOOD MAC SONGS SOLD IN £251M DEAL
HIPGNOSIS has snapped up the rights to a huge collection of songs including hits by Mariah Carey and Fleetwood Mac.
The £251m deal with Kobalt Music Copyrights will see the music investment fund acquire 42 catalogues spanning 33,000 songs.
They include The Chain and Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac ( pictured) and Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You, as well as unspecified tunes by a host of other artists including Kylie Minogue and Britney Spears. Hipgnosis’s total music library contains 57,000 songs. Merck Mercuriadis, the company’s founder and boss, said the music owned by Kobalt was ‘a wonderful portfolio of proven songs’. He added: ‘These special songs that have had such extraordinary success have a lot more joy to bring the world.’
Hipgnosis was founded by 57-yearold Mercuriadis and listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2018, and since then has raised more than £625m from the markets. Mercuriadis previously managed the likes of Elton John, Morrissey and Beyoncé.
