JOFRA MAY BE GIVEN A BREATHER

eNgLaNd must today decide whether to limit the involvement of their multi-format players in this month’s tour of south africa to save them from another long spell in a bubble. The selectors are keen to take a full-strength squad for the six white-ball matches in cape Town and Paarl, but those who spent the bulk of the last four months observing strict covid regulations may be spared from playing in both the Twenty20 and 50-over series. That includes Jofra archer and Jos Buttler in particular, who spent more time than anyone in the england bubbles this summer before experiencing a similar environment at the iPL. all the 50-over and Twenty20 players will travel on the same charter flight before england’s 10-day spell in quarantine at the Vineyard hotel when they are allowed to train at nearby Newlands. it will be up to ed smith and his fellow selectors to decide today who, if any, of the players might come home early with england also facing tours of sri Lanka, Pakistan and india. T20 SQUAD (possible): Morgan (capt), Bairstow, Buttler, Roy, Banton, Malan, Stokes, Billings, Moeen, Jordan, Rashid, T Curran, Archer, Wood, S Curran. 50-OVER SQUAD (possible): Morgan, Roy, Bairstow, Root, Buttler, Stokes, Billings, Woakes, T Curran, S Curran, Rashid, Archer, Wood, Banton, Denly.
