The mask that’s more eco-friendly to use

-

WHETHER taking a bus, going to the airport, shopping, visiting a museum or just having your hair cut, a face mask is now mandatory for most of us. The Government recommends using one anywhere social distancing may be difficult and where you may be in contact with people you don’t normally meet. This is because Covid-19 spreads by droplets from coughs, sneezes and speaking. So masks are becoming commonplace in the UK — but there is increasing concern about the mountains of Covid waste caused by disposable types. An alternative is a reusable, antibacterial mask made from soft, breathable fabric. This is a far more eco-friendly option, designed to be used again and again for up to a year, alongside filters that each give 40 hours of use. Each filter should have five layers to help protect against respiratory airborne particles. Used filters should be thrown away in general household waste and hands thoroughly washed. Filter packs can easily be re-ordered and a storage bag can help keep the mask safe and clean between uses. The antibacterial fabric, impregnated with Sterileyes® — a biocide based on silver salt — will remain fresh and effective for the lifetime of the product if washed weekly at 40c. But it is best to replace the mask after a year. The antibacterial technology will reduce the bacterial load on the mask, which is designed for the general public, while its reusable nature minimises the impact on the environment.
