Travel ban? Just stay right here . . .

-

there’S talk of travel bans for British travellers by european countries in the new year, but aren’t they cutting their noses off to spite their face? how will all those businesses on Spanish beaches and Greek islands survive without holidaying Brits? It’s time for us all to appreciate that we are living in one of the most wonderful places in the world. If you are looking for the ideal holiday destination, how about beautiful Devon and Cornwall, historic towns and cities and the majestic scenery of Scotland and Wales? Spend your money in Britain next year: our economy will be helped and you’ll appreciate what a truly great country we have.

STEPHEN GERRARD, York. With the country’s difficult present economic outlook, may I suggest we all consider it best to buy British? our own businesses need all the support we can give them after the pandemic. the possibility of tariffs increasing the cost of imported goods makes home produce more appealing. Shops, stores and supermarkets should be encouraged to source their stock from UK companies. Shoppers should be urged to buy British and avoid products from eu countries if a tariff is applied. let us help our fishermen, farmers and manufacturers by giving them our full support.

CHRIS HUMPHREYS, Bristol. It comes as no surprise to me that certain imports are delayed or not arriving at all. When we allowed China to take over our manufacturing, we put all our eggs in one basket — and now if China decided, it could hold us to ransom. So let’s buy less, pay a bit more for our own goods and not rely on those made by, in some cases, slave labour.

MARY WIEDMAN, hemel hempstead, herts.
