Should Michael Sheen have handed back his OBE?

-

THE actor Michael Sheen handed back his OBE eight years after receiving it from the Queen because he now believes Prince William should not be the next Prince of Wales and he wants independence for Wales (Mail). It is sad he has snubbed the Queen and William, who is every inch a king in waiting. Too many people are jumping on the bandwagon of looking back at history to try to bring down our country. Mr Sheen should remember that the greatest quality a famous man can have is humility.

JERRY SCOTT, Middlewich, Cheshire.

WITHOUT doubt, Michael Sheen is a fine character actor. He has also been involved with many good causes, not least in his home town of Port Talbot. Unfortunately, it appears he has a tendency to self-publicity. I hope he does not see himself as the Sean Connery of Welsh nationalism.

P. THOMAS, Bridgend.

THOSE who denigrate the English and yet owe everything to them make me angry. I am a Welshman, born and raised in Llanelli. I left 50 years ago to pursue job opportunities. My family and I owe England a lot. I know full well the history of Wales and its relationship to England. It’s easy to be selective to appease the right-on ideas of victimhood of the snowflakes. Mr Sheen is concerned about what happened 700 years ago — for goodness’ sake, grow up.

WILLIAM DAVIES, Slough, Berks. WHAT a pity Michael Sheen is dragging up ancient history of past wrongs committed by England on Wales. I’m so glad we English have got over being invaded by the Romans, Saxons, Vikings and Normans.

LYNNE BIRKETT, Wakefield, W. Yorks.

IT’S fine for Michael Sheen to wish to return his OBE — that is his prerogative. However, it is a slap in the face to those who nominated him for the award. Though it’s a tokenistic gesture, rejecting this honour only insults his supporters, not the establishment.

FRANCES DOLMAN, London E1.
