So food lovers will be delighted to discover that British Airways has teamed up with celebrity chef Tom Kerridge to put some zest into its inflight meals.

Its gourmet menu includes hot steak and ale pies, ham hock and smoked cheddar sandwiches, brie ploughman’s and vegetarian spiced cauliflower tortilla wraps.

The food, priced from £4.10 to £4.50, can be ordered pre-flight – meaning

an end to the lottery of the trolley service which can leave those unlucky few who get their meals last making do with whatever’s left.

The ‘buy before you fly’ service will be available from later this month for short-haul business travellers – and the rest of us when we’re allowed to jet off on holiday again.

Kerridge, whose Hand and Flowers in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, is the first UK pub to be awarded two Michelin stars, said he was particularly pleased with his pies. ‘These pies will be like ambassadors for British cuisine, with proper, glazed pastry and oozing with flavour,’ he said.

Kerridge teamed up with BA for the airline’s centenary in August 2019 with offerings such as smoked salmon and chocolate and amaretto tart.
