BHA may use rapid virus tests at courses

- MARCUS TOWNEND

THE BHA have acknowledged that lateral flow testing may have to be introduced at racecourses if the Covid- 19 situation continues to worsen.

Government-agreed protocols have allowed racing to continue behind closed doors based on temperature checks and health questionnaires. But with other sports experiencing increasing disruption, the BHA may use lateral flow testing which gives results in about 30 minutes.

A BHA spokesman said: ‘We are constantly monitoring the situation and liaising with the industry and training hubs.

‘We take an agile approach and our protocols are reviewed on a regular basis to determine how racing can continue to strengthen our approach and best safeguard our people.

‘Should evidence show it is necessary then testing could be an option that may be helpful if the situation continues to worsen.’
