Is it self-indulgent to moan about lockdown?

-

YES, it’s a bore not being able to go out and socialise (Letters), but what is the alternative? If you were allowed to go to the pub and caught Covid, you’d be the first to complain. People are losing sight of what is important. If you’re bored at home, ring an elderly neighbour for a chat, catch up with all those on your Christmas card list who you don’t contact from one year to the next, enjoy walking your dog or take it a step further and train for a 5k. As for the weather, you can’t blame that on the Government.

CHRIS PEAT, Accrington, Lancs.

I SYMPATHISE with anyone feeling low during the lockdown. We are social animals and anything curtailing our freedom, limiting life choices and preventing healthy interactions is bound to have a deleterious effect on psychological and physical wellbeing. I’ve been housebound, an extreme state of lockdown, for six years, due to chronic illnesses and disability. I can’t abide idleness, so four years ago I embarked on an art project that has saved my sanity. However, in recent weeks I’ve been unable to continue this because my health has deteriorated. Everything seemed bleak. Fortunately, I’ve retained a flicker of hope amid the tears and continue to pray. While waiting for a return to some sort of normality, I urge you to hold on to anything that gives you enjoyment and keeps your hopes alive that better days will follow.

EFROSYNI HOBBS, London SE9.

I LOST my husband of 27 years to Covid in November. I get annoyed about those moaning about lockdown. I’d gladly stay inside for another year if I could have him back. Stop being selfish and be thankful that your family is safe.

JANE PARKER, York.

ONE good thing that has come out of the pandemic is that I have never been as close to my wife of 52 years. I can’t go to the gym or play golf, but we stick together come what may. Don’t moan, find a bright side and we will win.

D. KENDALL, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancs.

TO THE reader who feels they are existing and not living, just think of the thousands who will never again have the opportunity to experience the grey skies or the cold that you moan about. Appreciate the fact you are here to feel the rain on your face.
