- By CHRIS FOY Rugby Correspondent

aSHToN GaTE staged a demolition derby last night as Bristol ran riot — scoring seven tries to humiliate neighbours Bath 48-3 and extend their lead at the top of the Premiership table. The Bears savaged Stuart Hooper’s hapless visitors, who endured no end of defensive indignities as they were ripped apart by Semi Radradra, charles Piutau and co. Bristol’s back-line Galacticos both touched down — Radradra from long range just after half-time — while the hosts’ electric attack was masterfully orchestrated by teenage Welsh fly-half ioan Lloyd, in his first league start. Hooker Bryan Byrne touched down twice as forceful forward play also played a major part in Bristol securing a bonus point before half-time. Ex-all Black prop john afoa, Dave attwood and second row partner chris vui were influential as Pat Lam’s pack dominated. Bath lost both locks to early head knocks and had also suffered disruption last week when their training ground was temporarily shut due to false positive covid test results. Nonetheless, the result and the manner of their performance suggested all is not well. They dropped off countless tackles and could not live with Bristol’s creativity and physicality. Lam’s team delivered another resounding statement that they are prime challengers to title holders Exeter. This victory leaves them nine points ahead of the champion chiefs. Sale are up to second as alex Sanderson launched his regime as their new director of rugby with a 25-15 win over Leicester at Welford Road, in a game of milestones. Tigers captain Tom Youngs marked his 200th appearance for the East Midlands club with a try from a lineout drive, before Sam james celebrated his 150th match for Sale by racing clear for an interception try from his own half. cobus Wiese and Marland Yarde went over after the break for the Sharks and they held on to win despite Nemani Nadolo’s late strike at the other end.
