Girl power at Brits

-

FEMALE singers are up for top prizes at this year’s Brit awards after last year’s event was branded one of the most sexist in history.

The nominations are also the most ethnically diverse since the Brits started in 1977. Four women, including Dua Lipa, are up for Album Of The Year alongside just one man – grime star J Hus.

It is the first time ever women have made up four out of the five nominees.

Black, Asian and minority ethnic artists make up 51 per cent of this year’s shortlists compared to just 30 per cent in 2018. Other nominees include Harry Styles for his single Watermelon Sugar and Bruce Springsteen for International Male Solo Artist. The ceremony takes place in London on May 11.
