Spilt milk

-

FOR more than 30 years i’ve had my milk delivered. i prefer glass bottles to cartons, even though the delivery cost means it’s a lot more expensive than in the supermarket.

But this doorstep service will cease on April 24 unless i sign up for an online account.

Many who have milk delivered are elderly and not computer-savvy. The milkman is a godsend who watches out for his customers. if bottles are left uncollected on the doorstep, he will alert the police to investigate.

Apparently, this new system is to protect the milkman from customer contact due to Covid. But i have never met my delivery man, as i am asleep when he drops off my milk.

Even though i’ve decided to move my account online, setting up a direct debit has proved confusing. it’s impossible to contact customer services. The phone is not answered, emails aren’t replied to and the ‘chatline help’ can’t answer questions.
