Burden of cares

-

i WAs disturbed at the suggestion that migrants seen ‘ strolling’ in hythe have ‘not a care in the world’ (Letters). Did the writer speak to them about what caused them to flee their country of birth?

Or discuss their feelings of leaving family and friends 1,000 miles away; of the highly dangerous journey they have undertaken, in which many die; of the suspicion and hostility they face in the countries they pass through; of being destitute because they have given all their savings to traffickers; of desperately wanting to have something meaningful to do, earning money, paying taxes and being a valued part of a community, rather than spending endless days ‘strolling’ along the prom?

i suspect they have a massive burden of cares. Migrants deserve a chance to build a life here through a humane migration system. SIMON LAWTON-SMITH,
