McGinn ‘buzzing’ after his double sets up crucial win

-

TWO goals by John McGinn gave Scotland’s World Cup qualifying hopes a massive lift at Hampden Park last night. Both McGinn’s goals were set up by Kieran Tierney, with the first in the seventh minute after the Arsenal defender burst forward and laid the ball back for the midfielder to steer home. The second came soon after half-time when Tierney’s pinpoint cross was headed in powerfully by McGinn (right) for his 10th goal in 32 Scotland games. A delighted McGinn told Sky Sports: ‘This was an important game. I’ve watched KT (Tierney) do that all season for Arsenal and had a wee feeling he was going to cut it back. The second one was right on my napper and I managed to direct it into the corner. I’m buzzing.’ The convincing victory was sealed by Che Adams with his first goal for his country in the 60th minute and a far-post header by Ryan Fraser, who took advantage of a fine cross by skipper Andy Robertson 10 minutes later. Adams said: ‘It was a great feeling seeing it hit the back of the net. We got the three points and that’s all that matters.’ Craig Gordon made a brilliant first-half save to keep out a cracking drive from Brandur Hendriksson, and after two draws against Austria and Iceland in Group F this was a crucial win for Steve Clarke’s team with Denmark gaining their third victory in Austria.
