PLAYER RATINGS

SAMI MOKBEL AT WEMBLEY STADIUM

-

NICK POPE 6

Still looks uncomfortable with the ball at his feet. Will go to the Euros as Jordan Pickford’s deputy.

KYLE WALKER 6.5

Could have made better use of the ball but still a strong display down England’s right side.

JOHN STONES 6

Not for the first time, a mistake could have cost his team dear but he recovered to set up England’s winner.

HARRY MAGUIRE 7

Came up trumps for his team as it looked like they were running out of ideas. Big player, big goal.

BEN CHILWELL 6.5

An energetic display from the left back. Saw plenty of the ball down his flank and used it well.

DECLAN RICE 7.5

Arguably England’s firstchoice holding midfielder. Has grown in stature for club and country this season.

KALVIN PHILLIPS 6.5

A third successive start for the Leeds man. Appears to be a shoo-in for the Euros squad. Economical in possession.

MASON MOUNT 7

Was a doubt heading into the game but still caused Poland problems with his poise and probing.

PHIL FODEN 6.5

Didn’t see as much of the ball as he’d have liked but hardly gave away a pass in possession.

HARRY KANE 6.5

Another goal closer to breaking Wayne Rooney’s record but cut a frustrated figure for much of this.

RAHEEM STERLING 7.5

Terrorised Poland, who had no answer to the Manchester City star’s dynamism and tricky runs at times.

SUBSTITUTES

James (for Foden 86), Calvert-Lewin (for Kane 89), Lingard (for Sterling 90). Not used: D Henderson, Johnstone, Bellingham, Coady, Dier, Mings, Shaw, Trippier, Watkins.

GARETH SOUTHGATE 7

Will be delighted with the character his team showed as they snatched a late winner.

POLAND

(3-4-3): Szczesny 6.5; Bednarek 7, Glik 7, Helik 6.5 (Jozwiak 55, 6); Bereszynski 6.5, Krychowiak 7, Moder 7, Rybus 6.5 (Reca 86); Swiderski 6 (Milik 46 n, 6), Piatek 6.5 (Augustyniak 77), Zielinski 6 (Grosicki 86).

REF BJORN KUIPERS (NED) 6

A relatively straightforward game for the Dutchman.
